Slovene language exam
Registering for the exam
You can register with a special registration form which you can print yourself (see below) or you can get it when registering in the administration office of the Adult Education Centre Postojna. The registration is successful only if you fill out all the information on the registration form.
The last date for registration is ten days before an individual exam. You can send your completed registration forms by mail or via our e-mail address: info@lu-postojna.si.
After receiving your registration form, we will send you the invoice for the exam fee by mail. You will be registered for the exam only after you have paid the exam fee, which is 121.27 EUR for the breakthrough level (A1) and 147.97 EUR for the basic level (A2 – B1). Please do not pay the exam fee until you have received the invoice and your exam date has been confirmed!
You can also pay the exam fees in person at the administration office of the Adult Education Centre Postojna every working day during office hours: from 8:00 to 11:00 and from 12:00 to 16:00.
When registering, candidates who are entitled to a free-of-charge first attempt at the Slovene language exam have to present a certificate of eligibility which can be obtained from the Employment Service of Slovenia.
When registering, candidates who are entitled to a free-of-charge first attempt at the Slovene language exam at the basic level have to present a certificate of eligibility. Anyone can register for the Slovene exam, even if they had not previously attended the Slovene as a Second and Foreign Language programme or if they had not completed any of the exam preparation courses.
Illiterate candidates who are applicants for Slovene citizenship can take the Slovene oral communication exam at the basic level if they present a valid certificate issued by the Ministry for Internal Affairs.
Candidates who meet specific requirements can take the exam orally. In this case, you can get additional information at administrative units or the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Deregistering from the exam
Candidates can deregister from the exam at least two (2) working days before the exam date. In this case, the candidate can be reassigned to the next date. The paid exam fee is transferable to the following exam dates in the current calendar year. If the candidate withdraws from the exam without deregistering, the exam fee has to be paid in full again with the next registration.
We do not send registration forms by mail. You can print out your form in the Centres for Independent Learning across all of Slovenia.
Preparing for an exam
We organise a short exam preparation course for all candidates taking the Slovene language exam on the basic level. The course lasts 4 school periods and costs 30 EUR. Candidates need to register in advance for the course.
Free evaluation of your Slovene level
We offer a free evaluation of your Slovene level for a more objective assessment whether your knowledge level is adequate and you can confidently register for the exam. We will test your knowledge in all four areas tested by the exam (reading, listening, writing, speaking) and grade your level in each of these areas with recommendations on how to improve. We are hoping that this evaluation will help you to decide and register for the exam only when you are certain that you have a strong enough base to successfully pass it. This will help reduce failed attempts to a minimum.
The evaluation is conducted as part of the public advisory service and is therefore free of charge.
Applying for the evaluation: 05/721 12 87 (Erika Švara) or 05/721 12 84 (Ana Šabec).

Literacy learning in Slovene for adult speakers of foreign languages – supplementation for underage children
The programme is intended for teaching literacy to people whose first language is not Slovene. The programme is publicly valid.
The aim of the programme is to teach literacy to underage children – applicants for international protection in order to be able to more successfully prepare and integrate into primary school for adults. The programme is based on their education needs (reading, writing in Slovene, counting and calculating, and mastering money-related tasks).
The programme is conducted as a course with an individualised approach and adapting to the needs of the underage participants.
